Reading and Writing

"Read like a wolf eats." -Gary Paulsen

In reading we read our own books that we choose.  We each have made our own reading plan.  Sometimes the teacher reads books to us.  We have learned about poets and poetry.  The Poet Laureate of 2001.  There are other poets we learned about like Dante, Emily Dickenson, Langston Hughes and Walt Whitman.  We have learned about other genres like historical fiction, non fiction, mystery, fantasy, biography and newspapers.  We are trying to read all the Psalms out loud.  We are trying to love reading, increase our stamina and be thoughtful about what we read.

In writing we are working on increasing our stamina and using our words well.  we have learned to write in genres like guyku, essays, short stories, letters, articles and paragraphs.  Guykus are haikus written by guys.
