One of our fun fridays was to go see my uncle, Corky  Coker, the owner of Coker Tire,a tire store for old cars. When we got there we walked into his office to meet him.  We talked about how to become successful in business. He talked about how he started and the history of Coker Tire. He told us that to run a great business,you have to work hard,and his hard work granted him his own T.V show: Back Road Gold on Travel Channel. Then came the fun stuff.We got to go inside the Coker Museum! When we first walked in we were stunned. Every way you look you see shiny old time cars.It was so cool! He had so many cars and bikes he even had his own biplane! My favorite was the 1937 Buick Shaver 8, an old time race car. My 2nd favorite was the V.W. van. I really liked the little statues on the cars hood. They were pretty neat. After that we said thank you and we had to leave. It was awesome.



p.s.last summer I got to ride in the 1937 Buick Shafer 8!!!

 Well what I'm going to say will sound crazy, but I'll try not to make it so crazy. My favorite  heroes are my brothers and  sisters. Call me crazy but they have some of the greatest powers in the world. James Drake Rustand, is my oldest brother. His power is he can teach you how to do something  and in 5 minuets later you get it down, and you're the 1st or 2nd best one out there!
He also can make up the best games like the video game. It's not like anything on the xbox, it is better,  it's awesome. Emerson Brock Rustand is my 2 oldest brother and his  power is willingness. He will do anything you want to do,  just to make you happy. He also can fight for whats right, like he will fight for both sides seeing the hearts with God's help. Marshall Wisdom Rustand is my oldest sister. She has 1 power, but it's the greatest power ever. She can help any fight,it can be a fight thats random or a fight thats ok. She is so wise. Zoe Grase Rustand, she is my 2nd oldest sister. She can play beautiful music she has the warmest smile. She is the most thankful person I know. Myra Ephrim Rustand is my 3rd oldest sister. She has a great  power, she is the most creative person I know. She can take bags of mulch and turn it into an igloo with a door while making a door bell that could reach our parents in the house.  Rosemary Gardener Rustand is a year and a half younger than me. She is super smart,and she can clean so well and knows where everyone is and everything is. Mason Tate Rustand is my  youngest brother but he has the most imagination I have ever seen.
Sage Brigder Rustand is the youngest girl in our  family. She can take  care of almost any  animal. She is super confident. My sister in law just got married to my oldest brother. Her power is helping you with anything, from a problem in math or a problem with anger issues. She has great ideas and makes everything fun.

Teleport to Mouse Island

I'm  going to try to teleport you to Mouse Island.

I jump off the boat into the water and  swim to the shore of  Mouse Island.

When you touch the ground with your shoes it feels bumpy and slippery.It smells

horrible,and I'm getting bit by mosquitoes. There is a sign that says "eep  ut   pivt

propty". I'm guessing that sign use to say "keep out privet property" but of course

we don't care. Nobody lives there,but the chimney is all that stands of a house.I am collecting sea glass, glass that has been tossed around in Lake Erie for a while (like two hundred years).

        My older brother yells, "Hey Eli, want to explore the island and see if we can find a good cliff to jump off of?"
         I said, "What? Why would we do that?  Jump off a cliff?  Seriously?"
         Sim says, "Into the water you dumb, dumb."
        "OK, fine.  I'll go.  When?"
        "Right now!"
        "Let's go!"  We walked about 5 feet then I stepped into a red ant pile.  So I ran as fast as I could down the hill of rocks and seaglass but I slipped and fell as an avalanche of rocks, glass and a bunch mosquitoes came sliding down on me. I was bleeding on my knees and elbows. Then I fell into the water and it felt so good with the mosquitoes off of me. After a while I carefully walked up the hill. I saw my brother on a cliff so I ran off after him and jumped off the cliff.There was only one problem: we couldn't find a way back up so we had to choose to swim around or to find a way back up. We decided to swim around the island and find some other cool stuff. Seeing a little cave under the water, we dove under the water and swam back up on the other side .There was barely any room to breathe but we observed the rocks and walls. Then we went back under to the other side.We swam about one eighth of the way around the island. We tried to find a way up but it was really hard .
          I rounded a corner and I yelled,"Hey Sim! Come here! I want to show you something, " It was a massive cliff and there was a hole at the top of the cave that led to the top of the island .It was really high so we got up and tried to climb it. When we climbed up Simeon slipped on the moss and fell on his hands and feet then cut himself.

 " Oouuuccchhh! " he yelled.
 " We should be a little more careful on this I think, " I said. So we climbed carefully the rest of the way and got to the top.We knew that we had to get back to the beach but we decided to go back to the cliff  and jump off again.So we went back to the cliff and jumped off .Now we didn't want to swim back by the big cave but we wanted to find a way up closer to the cliff. We looked around the left corner. There was a place that looked like you could hoist yourself up.I tried it and it worked out but we had to keep climbing. We stepped from one cliff hold to another. Once we got to the top there was a crack in the rock.We jumped across the crack and jumped off the cliff one more time.  Then we had to go home. vvvvvvvvvvwwwwwwwwwwwwwrrrrrrtttttt we are home from the teleportation trip.

DANTE DIVIND COMEDY

            A writer named Dante Aligheri wrote a play called the Divide Comedy around 1300.He was born in Florence,Italy in 1265.In our classroom we created a play out of it.I was the narrator and now I present  this play. Dante's first journey was through hell where he saw the worst of it all : lust,laziness,murder, and drunkenness.Thankfully Virgil,a Roman poet,guides him through. Dante second journey was through purgatory where Virgil helps him climb up a mountain.Every time he gets closer to the top an angel appears and wipes a p off his head. The "P's" stand for the stages of purification. Dante third journey was through paradisio where he saw God and found out God is more beautiful than Beatrice, his love on earth.  He learns to put all focus on God.The theme is put all your focus on God.

                                       Pink Lake


 On the way home from weight training at Baylor we were trying to name 13 bodies of water. I said "the pink lake." Now to my understanding some of the others did not believe me. I decided that my next blog post would be a debate. I did some research and here's what I found. In western Australia one of the biggest tourist attractions is Lake Hiller on Middle Island. This lake is seriously pink.Middle island is off the coast of Esprance. The lake is 600 meters long. A 300 yard strip of land separates the lake from the blue southern ocean. Scientists think that the lake is pink due to salt crusts that get in the lake ,then certain bacteria turn it into pink dye.

                                                            PINK LAKE FAKE

        My friend Samuel thinks there is a natural bubble gum pink lake. My opinion is that the people in Australia just dyed the lake pink for a holiday like Valentine's Day. Plus if I will believe it I will have to go there with him. There has to be a catch to it like the lake is hot, and it turned pink like the geysers in Yellowstone Park. Even though I saw pictures of people swimming in the pink lake, I still don't believe it.

SLAM DUNKS

Vince Carter once did a 360 slam dunk in one game.He also  jumped over a 7ft2 guy. When he went to the slam dunk championship he threw the ball off the back board and put it through  his legs while doing a 360 and slam dunked it!!!Then the next time  he stuck his arm in the hoop.It was awesome! Since everyone knows about Michael Jordan, there is one thing I can say.  He is so good at slam dunking!!! One time he jumped from the free throw line and dunked it. Last is Blake Griffen. In a slam dunk championship he jumped over a car! It was not that big of a car, but a car.Then he got one of his friends to throw the ball off the back of the back board then he slam dunked it!!!

Teleportation

          Hello human you fainted when you saw me so I took you with me. Now close your eyes. I am going to teleport you with my words so you can learn about my planet. Okay now imagine you're seeing a purple ground and the water is yellow. Now you look up and see the green sun baking hot. Now you kinda get the base of my planet. So the ground is purple and has kind of a mushy good feeling. The yellow water is a bubbly massage on your body while you're in the water. When you get out the sun dries you off instantly. Now imagine craters on the ground,huge,giant ones. In them are the homes of my people. Other than us the only other stuff is bright orange trees with fruit. That's all in my very simple planet. Now you may open your eyes and go home. I will see you in the next 2 light years!

UNC VS DUKE

The  first thing you need to know is I'm a BIG UNC fan!On Feb,17,2014 The TarHeels played Duke and UNC won!!This the second time they beat Duke as an unranked team. It was awesome!UNC was down  by 10 points with 4 minutes to go. They came back and won the game. 74-63 was the score. It was so cool!!!

My favorite play was  when a guy shot it and it bounced of the back of the rim and another guy caught it in mid air and SLAM DUNKED it !!! My favorite UNC player is Page. He's not Michael Jordan or Vince Carter or Danny Green or any one else that played for UNC but he'll do.

George Washington Bio

 George Washington was born February 22nd,1732 in Westmoreland County,Virginia.George grew up with his older brother because his father died when he was 11.His older brother inherited the plantation and he took care of George.Once George turned 16 he started working.He took the job of surveyor. He mapped out new lands.A few years later George became the leader of the militia of Virginia.Later he became involved in the French and Indian War which began in 1753.

        After the French and Indian War George settled down and married Martha Custis.Then after that  he took over the estate of Mount Vernon.George became a large land owner.Then he was elected to the Virginia legislature.George and his fellow legislators became upset with the British.They began to argue King George the III for rights but the British refused to go to war.George became General of the Continental Army when the war broke out!George led them to victory over the British.
After the war, Washington served the first two terms of the presidency.  During this time he created roles and traditions like the Fourth of July.  After two terms he retired and Sam Adams took his place.  Later Washington died on December 14, `1799.

THESIUS AND THATH, THE FOUR HEADED BEAST

Once upon a time,there was a four headed beast named Thath.He was the greatest warrior on his planet.But there was one person he never challenged before. He was named Thesius. He also said he was the greatest too.Then one day they planned a battle.They met on the battle field and said"LET IT BE WAR."It was a fierce battle, head to head combat.Thesius would throw a punch Thath would too...but then Thath got his four bladed sword and cut Thesius' head right off. And that's the story of the Thesius and Thath, the four headed beast. 

                                                  Knitting With Peg Rustand


     On one of the Fun Fridays at Peg Rustands house she pulled us over and gave us a quick session of how to knit.She gave us yarn and knitting needles. It was really easy to learn.I flew through it.I almost have a full scarf of my own for my grandfather. Peg Rustand can do all different kinds of stitches horizontal stitches,words,stripes,shapes,and is a master at scarves. If you want to learn how to knit, don't be afraid.It is not hard.

         Shuffleboard is not a boring sport even though in movies like Alvin & the Chipmunk's Chipwrecked it is a punishment . In shuffleboard there are rules like: the top triangle is worth ten points,  the two below the triangle are worth eight points,  below those are worth seven points, under that is worth minus ten points . If you step past the bottom line you lose points.  You shuffle by pushing your disks with a cue down the 36 foot court.  You cannot step on the court because there are tiny glass beads on it to make the disk go better.  There are two sides of the court. You stand next to each other and aim at the triangle on the other end, taking turns,and trying to knock each other's disks out. At the end whoever has the most points wins. In Lakeside, Ohio there are 26 outdoor courts. Shuffleboard is my absolute favorite sport!

In homeschool we are talking about making the reader feel like they are in the place you are describing.  I find this very fun to do.  I will try to take you to a place in Breckinridge, Colorado called the "Day Frame".  Walk in the front door and sit on the orange couch.  M-M-M-M smell the sweet aroma of beignets and snow ice cream.  The small A-shaped hut is heated by a wood burning furnace.  You sit in front of it warm and toasty while its -20 degrees out and three feet of snow.  You look forward to the skiing days to come and if there will be more snow the next day.  Blip, Blip you drop the small marshmallow in your hot cocoa and then sip.  Tssssss, the creamy liquid chocolate bites your tongue.  Now the furnace is even hotter and the snow is now 3 1/2 feet deep.  You feel the sudden urge to jump in it.  You instantly slip more clothes on and run out the door.  Right off, the freezing air nips your nose and cheeks.  You decisively open the door and sprint back into the warm A frame.

                                                          Wood Working

      On February 21st our home school home boys group went to Gerber Branch to do wood working with Porter's and Samuel's grandfathers.We are making a cooling rack for pots and pans that have just come out of the oven.There is lots of measuring to do and cutting.We have two more Fridays with them.We are using boards and wooden rods . As soon as I figure out how to post videos of woodworking they will be on the blog.

Ender's game

        Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite books I have ever read . It is based sometime in the future on earth and in space. It is interesting and mind boggling.So many crazy things are going on that it gets hold of your attention. For example,his sister and brother have chapters of their own that you have to remember or later in the book it gets confusing.

      Ender is the main character.He is a little boy on a wild adventure.There are a lot more characters like Valentine, Ender's sister and Peter, his older brother.They both treat Ender differently .He meets a lot of other people on his journey some of which will be his enemies later in the book or right then.

       The author's style is to save something to the very end and then BOOM he switches it on you.The theme is to love each other no matter what.

Home schooling vs schooling

The reason I write this is because of the truth. Home schooling is way better than regular schooling and that's no opinion. It is all truth,brothers and sisters. Now gather around so I can tell you why. First of all teachers would hate what I just wrote but home schooling teachers are like cool with it.What I mean is you get more freedom of word choice. I also think it's better because you feel more comfortable at your house. Also it's not quite as big of a deal because there aren't as big of tests like the big state tests! That is why home schooling is way better than regular schooling and I mean it!

Olympics

          The Winter Olympics are taking place in Sochi, Russia . My personal favorite sport is half pipe and also slope style ski . On half pipe you go on a snow board or skis.  You go down and up and down and up and down and up and so on. They do all kinds of crazy spins and flips. (Skiing on the half pipe is a new sport.) In slope style ski you start off at a rail and do another rail and then go off a jump and another jump and another jump and then you're finished. The last jump is longer than a basket ball court!One guy from Sweden crashed big time probably because his pants were 5 sizes too big and his shirt was also 5 sizes too big . The funny thing is he had a egg in his pocket for good luck.On his second run he did 3 flips and 2 spins in one jump and landed it backwards.
        Shaun White of the half pipe lost to a guy whose nick name was I pod. They both did a yolo flip. Shaun White crashed it and the other guy landed it. Shaun White was expected to win gold for the 3rd time but he did not even place.The Olympics are a great way for countries to get together.

MY FAVORITE BASKETBALL PLAYERS

               MY FAVORITE  BASKETBALL PLAYERS 
 I love basketball so much. I am ok at it but it's not my best sport.  But right now I'm going to talk about my favorite basketball players. Michael Jordan is my first favorite basketball player because of his three pointers, slam dunks and his cool tricks. For example, in one game this guy went to the free throw line . He shot it and it hit the back of the rim. BAM Michael Jordan grabs it and slam dunks it. My second favorite player is Vince Carter. I love love love his slam dunks.In one game he jumped over a 7ft 2 guy. It was awesome. My third  favorite is a tie, because I love Tracy Magrady and Magic Jonson.Well I loved when Tracy Magrady scord 13 points in thirty five seconds for the win.It was amazing! I also love watching Magic Johnson.  My 4th favorite is Allen Ivirson  I watched  him on youtube do moves like crazy. I got down one of  his moves.  It's super hard. Lastly is Blake Griffin.I love his slam dunks too.  Once when he was in the slam dunk championship he jumped over a car, not that big of a car but a car. These are my favorite basketball players.

THE SCAR

I have a horrific scar that has a terrifying back story.We went out and  I got some new clothes that had watches  attached to them.I was having a great day until, I got pair of scissors to cut the  watches off the shirt. That didn't turn out well.  The pair of scissors went straight through my arm and blood started gushing out.It didn't hit my vein ,but it sure bled like crazy! Luckily, I went to the doctor and didn't  have to get stitches . :)

I recommend HomeBoyz by Alan Lawrence Sitomer but only if you like suspense.This book is for young adults such as myself.It has an urban setting.  The main characters are  Tania Anderson,Andrew Anderson and Teddy Anderson.They are the Anderson family.The main problem is that Tania died from a gang related shooting by o-1-o.The o-1-o and the 4th Street Merks were enemies and Tania was a 4th Street Merk. I think the author is trying to say stay out of bad places.  They say in the book, "WPWT" which means wrong place, wrong time.  So if you're interested in this book, go to your local library and check it out!

The book City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau , is a great book . I  think everyone should read it. The main problem is Ember is running out of supplies  and somebody needs to save them. The main characters are two kids named Lina and Doon.  Lina  likes adventure . She is always getting into trouble.  Doon's dad owns the tiny things store . Doon tries hard at whatever he's doing. He tries never to give up. They think Lina's grandma has gone mad because she is looking  frantically for something that they think does not exist:  the secret to save Ember. Poppy, Lina's baby sister finds it and chews it up. Lina and Doon have to decipher it and figure out what to do.

    There are many mysteries in this book so be ready  like : where is this city? why was it made? is there a way out? will anyone survive? You will have to read to find out!!!!

                          FUN FRIDAYS

      One Friday in the fall one of the home schooler's mom and dad took us rock climbing and two other kids came along.At Sunset Rocks we hiked down to our spot to rock climb.Each kid took a turn to climb up 50 to 75 feet up a natural rock.We left to go to rock climb at about 9:00am and rock climbed till 3:30pm.In between our turns there were lots of trails to run up and down.Some of us attempted to boulder some, but there were no good rocks. I liked this trip because it was longer than any other fun friday and we got to go outdoors.

The Hunger Games by Susann Collins is one of my all time favorite  books.  If I had to pick a genre from it I would say realistic fiction. It could happen in the future but not in the present day.

In the book the setting is the future in a place called Pannam.  In this sick world the capitol rules over the districts.  Each district has its own significance (ex: District 6 fishing).  The districts are treated poorly so district 13 rebels against the capitol, but it dose not go their way and district 13 is destroied.  So from then on to remember never to rebel against the capitol, their is the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are when the capital randomly selects 2 tributes (boy & girl) from each district and puts them in an arena to kill each other.

The main character is Katniss Everdeen a 16 year old girl who has become fierce due to illegally hunting for food. She ends up in the hunger games.

The author of the  The Hunger Games Susan Collins) has a great writing style.  She really describes everything so well that you feel like you are in the book, for example, Katniss & her friend are talking about how they hate the hunger games.  The author does such a good job describing that scene you feel like you are there.  I loved this book and would recommend it to people 9 and up because it is a really deep subject,has romance and violence.
